Year 7 Rugby Tournament at Trafford MV
This year Mr Dutton and Mr Whiting have been spearheading a rugby revolution at Stretford and the Year 7 squad has been training hard all term. They are proving to be a really committed group and have already formed the kind of team bond that is needed for the challenging sport of rugby. On a crisp and damp Tuesday night, the Year 7 rugby team made the short trip to Trafford MV’s ground to play in a Trafford rugby tournament. Trafford MV's floodlit pitch provided a gladiatorial backdrop for the 4 schools who played eachother on a rotation. For many of those playing it was their first opportunity to play in a rugby fixture. Stretford showed great skill in defence and attack in close losses to Sale Grammar and Ashton on Mersey, only losing by 1 try, and great effort and application in a heavier loss to Wellington. Greg Hawkins from Trafford MV commended the way in which our boys played saying "It was great to see a group of players - some new to rugby - give the game a real go. They all showed heart and passion, and I am looking forward to working with the school to support the development of the game". During the whole tournament, the boys gave a great account of themselves and never gave up. Special mention goes to try scorers, Farzad Ahmadi and Ben Cooke, with the most valuable player of the tournament award going to Fikemi Abati.
