TRAFFORD SCHOOLS SEMI-FINAL

YEAR 10/11 BOYS BASKETBALL V AOM – TRAFFORD SCHOOLS SEMI-FINAL

Year 10/11 Basketball travelled to AOM to face a strong opponent in a Trafford Schools semi-final.  Scoring was quick from the outset with AOM establishing a 10-point advantage mid-way through the first half.  SGS scored regularly but also hit the rim on several occasions.  Jack Styczen-O’Keefe scored at regular intervals to keep SGS in the game.  Towards the end of the first half, SGS pulled the score back to lead by 1 point, 29-30 at the interval.  Ruben Ilunga and Kamraan Azeemi were both excellent in defence and attack, leading to several breakaway scores.  The second half followed the first with AOM taking another lead of 8 points.  SGS continued to claw back the score but, with only 1 minute remaining, were 3 points behind.  A quick break saw SGS get within one point of AOM, but AOM had possession with only 20 seconds remaining.  Good pressure from SGS forced a mistake to allow Kamraan to break away. His shot rebounded to Shogo Homei-Timmermann, who scored with only seconds left to put SGS 61-60 ahead.  The final whistle went before AOM could launch an attack, giving SGS the victory.

The team never gave up despite being well behind twice.  Great rebounding by Nathan Tan and Dylan Jones was essential, as was defensive pressure that was applied by Jacob Khawar.  Man of the Match was Kamraan.
