Singer-Songwriter Harry Lyon Inspires Stretford Grammar Students

Harry performs and speaks about the importance of dealing with mental health.

Stretford Grammar School was thrilled to welcome singer-songwriter Harry Lyon for a special visit, where he performed a range of original songs and covers for all Year 8 and Year 9 students. His engaging performance was accompanied by an open and honest discussion about mental health, cyber safety, and the dangers of cyberbullying.

Originally from Sheffield, Harry now resides in Manchester and has had an inspiring journey in the music industry. At just 14 years old, he was signed by a major record label, embarking on a whirlwind five-year career while balancing the pressures of education. When his contract ended, he returned to his studies, later graduating with a degree in music.

During his visit, Harry shared personal experiences of the challenges he faced in the industry and the importance of resilience. He encouraged students to speak up if they are struggling, reinforcing the message that seeking support is vital. His words carried particular significance as the visit coincided with Safer Internet Week, an initiative that promotes online safety and digital well-being worldwide. Students embraced the opportunity to engage with Harry, asking insightful questions about his music career and personal journey.

Music teacher Mr. Wright, who organised the event, praised Harry’s visit, saying: “Harry’s story is truly inspiring. His openness about the ups and downs of the music industry and the importance of mental health and cyber safety made a real impact on our students. We are grateful for his time and for sharing such an important message.”

Harry’s visit was a memorable experience for all, reminding students of the power of music, resilience, and the importance of supporting one another in the digital age.
