Holocaust Memorial Day 2025

Reflecting and Remembering Together

On Tuesday, 21st January 2025, Trafford Council hosted a poignant festival of remembrance at Sale Waterside in honour of Holocaust Memorial Day. This year, 13 students from Stretford Grammar School were invited to participate in this meaningful event, which serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of remembrance, education, and unity.

This event for Holocaust Memorial Day not only commemorated the millions of lives lost during the Holocaust of World War II, but also refleced on other genocides that have scarred humanity—including the tragedies in Rwanda and Srebrenica. By broadening the scope of remembrance, the event fostered a deeper understanding of the devastating consequences of hatred and intolerance.

The festival at Sale Waterside featured a series of thought-provoking activities and performances aimed at educating participants and the wider community. Through these shared experiences, attendees honoured the memories of victims while reaffirming a collective commitment to challenge prejudice and prevent such atrocities from occurring again.

The involvement of Stretford Grammar School students highlights the vital role younger generations play in carrying the torch of remembrance forward. Their participation ensures that the lessons of the past continue to resonate, fostering a culture of empathy and awareness. Mr. Deavall expressed his pride in the students, saying, "I was deeply impressed by the way our students handled the sensitive content with maturity and respect. They showed a profound understanding of the importance of this event."

One student shared her thoughts on the experience: "Being part of this event has been incredibly moving. It’s a reminder of how important it is to learn from history and stand against discrimination in all its forms."

As we come together on this significant day, let us reflect on the lives lost and renew our dedication to building a future free from hate and discrimination. Holocaust Memorial Day reminds us that even in the darkest chapters of history, there is hope for a brighter, united world.
