Year 8 Visit the Lille Christmas Markets
A Magical Christmas Adventure in Lille
The Languages department is delighted to reflect on the success of the Christmas trip to Lille, which took place from Thursday, 12th December to Saturday, 14th December 2024. This exciting experience was offered to our Year 8 students and provided an unforgettable opportunity to immerse themselves in French culture and language.
The highlight of the trip was the visit to the famous Lille Christmas market. Students explored the vibrant stalls, soaked in the magical festive atmosphere, and enjoyed traditional French crafts and regional delicacies. It was the perfect setting for them to practise their French language skills while experiencing the unique charm of one of France’s most celebrated Christmas markets.
The students stayed in a centrally located hostel, which provided a warm and welcoming environment, further enhancing their cultural immersion. They visited La Piscine art museum and admired its stunning collections, and also took part in a hands-on experience at la Chocolaterie P&J, where they learned about traditional French chocolate making. Meals were provided throughout the trip and students enjoyed authentic French cuisine as part of their experience.
Mrs Ashall, trip leader, commented: “This trip was a fantastic opportunity for our students to experience the magic of French culture at Christmastime. They not only enhanced their language skills but also created lifelong memories while embracing the joy of French traditions.”
The trip was a resounding success, leaving students inspired and with a deeper appreciation of the French language and culture. We extend our gratitude to the students, parents, and staff who made this unforgettable adventure possible.
We look forward to more exciting opportunities in the future!
