Year 10 Students Visit St. Matthews Church

Year 10 Students Explore Christian Practices at St. Matthews Church

Our Year 10 students enjoyed an enriching experience as the Religious Studies Department organised a trip to St. Matthews Church in Stretford. This exciting visit, inclusive of all Year 10 pupils, took place on Wednesday, 4th December and Thursday, 12th December 2024.

Students walked to and from the church, a journey that took approximately 1.5 hours - a great chance for some fresh air! Once at St. Matthews, students had the opportunity to explore the church’s artefacts, participate in a Q&A session with Vicar Kate, and witness a walk-through of a Baptism and Eucharist. These activities are directly aligned with the EDUQAS GCSE Christian Practices syllabus, offering students a hands-on learning experience to complement their studies.

Mrs. Lea, Curriculum Leader for Religious Studies, expressed her enthusiasm for the trip, stating, “We are delighted to provide our students with this valuable opportunity to deepen their understanding of Christian practices. It’s also a wonderful way to strengthen our connections with the local community and bring learning to life outside the classroom.”

This visit is a key component of the Year 10 RE curriculum, and Stretford Grammar School is proud to foster such meaningful experiences that combine academic learning with community engagement. A big thank you to St. Matthews Church and Vicar Kate for welcoming our students and supporting their educational journey.
