Trafford Rugby Tournament Success!

Our Year 9 and Year 10 Squad Played Some Fantastic Rugby to Finish Tournament Winners

The Year 9 and 10 Rugby Team was led by Tomos Newell and Richard McClean for their first Trafford Schools Rugby Tournament of the year. The games went as follows:

Against Wellington we drew 1-1, with our try being scored by Ben Cooke. This game showed the greatness of our defence.

Then, the boys played against Altrincham College where they won 4-0. Tries were scored by Johnny, Sami and Stan scored twice.

Sale High made an appearance at their first Year 9 tournament with a strong squad. They scored twice, but our passing and evasion was too good for them to defend, meaning we won 5-2. Tries were scored by Tom Myring, Sami, Stan, Ben, and Jonny.

Our final opposition of the tournament was Sale Grammar, who spread the ball wide very well, but we shut them down quickly when we realised, they could’ve threatened us in wider spaces. Tries in this game came from Jake, Ben and Richard allowing us to win 3-0.

The boys were victoriously unbeaten in the tournament, their first win of a Trafford Schools Rugby Tournament too! They were incredibly proud of their performance and are now excited for the next one in the new year!

Coach’s Player of the Tournament went to Tomos Newell for his vision and decision-making skills. Lots of our tries were scored due to him making things happen from good passing and running with the ball. Then, the lads voted for Sami Ahmed for Player’s Player of the Tournament because of his eye for the try line. He showed blistering pace and confidence to beat defenders. Well done boys! And well done to Mr Dutton, who has really made a big impact on rugby at the school.
