Year 9 Students Lend a Helping Hand at Feed My City

Our school supports a fantastic local charity

A group of twelve enthusiastic Year 9 students recently had the opportunity to visit Feed My City in Manchester, a charity dedicated to providing free, nutritious meals to those in need across the Greater Manchester area. The visit offered an eye-opening experience, allowing students to witness firsthand the impact of community-driven initiatives in supporting the most vulnerable.

Feed My City was founded in 2018 in response to the rising levels of food insecurity affecting families and individuals across the region. Since its inception, the charity has served thousands of meals, ensuring that no one in the community goes hungry. The organisation relies on volunteers and donations to continue its vital work, and our school has been proud to support them through Linguafest, an annual fundraising event organised by the Modern Foreign Languages department.

During their visit, the students toured the charity’s facilities, explored the food preparation areas, and spoke to volunteers about their experiences. The inspirational founder of Feed My City, Sukhbir Singh, shared inspiring insights into the charity’s mission and the difference it makes to so many people. He said: “It’s incredible to see young people getting involved and showing compassion for their community. Their enthusiasm gives us hope for the future.”

Miss White, Modern Foreign Languages teacher and the organiser of the trip, reflected on the experience: “It was wonderful to see our students engaging with such an important cause. They showed great empathy and dedication, and I hope this visit inspires them to continue supporting those in need.” We would like to extend our sincere thanks to Miss White for arranging this valuable opportunity for our students.

The visit reinforced the importance of giving back to the community and highlighted the power of collective action in tackling food insecurity. Our students returned with a deeper understanding of the challenges faced by many and a renewed commitment to making a difference.

We are incredibly proud of our Year 9 students and grateful to Feed My City for welcoming them. We look forward to continuing our support for this fantastic charity in the future!
