Year 8 Rugby Success

Proud winners of the Trafford Schools Tournament
The Year 8 Rugby Team win the Trafford Schools Tournament again! George Fleet and Johnny Jones, led the squad in 3 unbeaten matches, each of which finished:
Against Wellington:
Jared touched down once and Johnny scored twice to beat them 3 tries to two. An excellent start for Stretford Grammar’s tournament was shown in this match. They showed intensity from kick off!
Against Ashton on Mersey:
Joe Southall ran through the middle from a close distance to their try line, then Zack Morgan touched down on the wing to secure a second try. We won 2-1 in this game! Shout out to Eslam Hassan for making his debut during this match too! During this game, Sam Lough also made his Trafford Schools Tournament debut, showing precision at Scrum Half.
Against Altrincham College:
Tries in this game came from a nibble, side-stepping Amani Ergas. Then, Morgan Yeung who stepped back in field from out wide. Theo Kanakides scored two remarkable tries, one of which was immediately from receiving a kick off, he ran with great speed from his own half on both occasions. Finally, year 7, Daniel O’Keefe weaved his through to place the ball down for Stretford’s 5-1 victory.
Trafford Schools Tournament debutant, Lenny Heyes received Player’s Player of the Tournament for his ability to apply some jumping tackles out wide, as well as this, his depth and ability to run on to the ball at speed was excellent. Coach’s Player of the Tournament goes to Theo Kanakides due to the security and confidence he showed when catching high balls from kicks, tackling in his position of Full Back and for the two excellent tries he bagged!
