Stretford Grammar School are Trafford Champions!
Stretford Grammar are Trafford Champions for the first time in 5 years!
Led by George Fleet and Johnny Jones, they played 3 matches, each of which finished:
Against BTH:
Jared and Johnny scored in quick succession to make it 2-0. Then, Jared scored with a great Santiago assist. Johnny offloads nicely for Morgan to score, making it 4-0. Then Amani stepped his way through to score a wicked try to win 5-0.
Against Wellington (The Rivals):
A fantastic game of rugby that the lads were really up for!
Johnny completed a great carry, to set up Jared, who scored the first try. Then, Johnny carried over to score after several phases to put us 2-0 up. After unbelievably fearless tackling, Wellington eventually gained a try back. We received a penalty and Jared wisely took a quick tap to find the gap to score and make it 3-1. Finally, Wellington scored to close the game at 3-2, but it was too late for them. Stretford win!
Against Ashton:
1-0 Jared scores first. Ashton then equalised, with Stretford giving away too many penalties. Then Johnny ploughed through to increase the scoreline to 2-1. In the final third of the game, defensive efforts shone from the likes of Mo Fakandu, Arunraj Singh, Joe Southall, Sam Fletcher and Johnny, which prevented Ashton from scoring and equalising as close as they were.
Arunraj Singh received Coach’s Player of the Tournament for his ability to apply some strong tackles to securely and quickly protect our ruck, and executed some nice offloads. Player’s Player of the Tournament was awarded to Jared and Johnny with an equal number of votes, due to their endless ability to tackle and score tries to give us the triumphant tournament win.
Mr Dutton and the team were the proudest they’d ever been!
