North Trafford Derby Success
On Monday the Girls’ Football Team travelled to Urmston Grammar for the first of their league games.
With a combination of year 7, 8 and 9 totalling 17 we had to make sure that everyone had a decent amount of game time as well as having one eye on playing people in their strongest positions in order to challenge Urmston.
A good start saw Alice Noakes strike first for SGS with a well taken strike inside the box after good work from Ruby Myin had released the striker.
Hungry for more goals, SGS were left exposed at the back and Zoe Flint was forced in to making two good saves. UGS eventually equalised. However, good passing between Heidi Widdop and Eliza Khan set up Alice for her second goal just before half time.
Two Year 7 debutants for SGS came on at half time, Emma Horsley and Hannah Cook, and made an instant impact with some slick passing and movement off the ball. A good interplay between these 2 and a pass to Alice meant she completed her hat trick. A swift reply from UGS made IT 3-2 BEFORE Alice added hers, and SGS’s, 4th goal to end the game 4-2 in their favour.
Also a mention for Alyssa Knight, Boriana Blagoeva and Abigail Royal at the back for some solid defending at the back.
Congratulations to everyone who took part and the parents who travelled to support.
